He was predeceased by: his spouse Asalyn Meakin; his parents, Canon J. W. R Meakin and Oriole Meakin; and his siblings, Dr. Bill Meakin (Geraldine), Canon Allan Meakin (Jean) and David Meakin.

He is survived by: his children, Christopher (Claire) and Stephanie (David); his grandchildren, Aidan, Sean and Alexandra; his siblings, Diana Miller and Geoff Meakin; and his sisters-in-law, Doralyn and Glenda Meakin. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
