He was predeceased by: his parents, John Bateson and Elsie Bateson; his sisters, Pauline Dalton and Alwyn Barkworth; and his cousin Margaret Tracy.
He is survived by: his wife Catherine Bateson; his children, Sharon Thorne (Mark) of Oshawa and Lynn Bateson of Whitby; and his grandchildren, Brandon Thorne (Mercedes) of Bowmanville, Kyle Thorne of Oshawa, Lyla and Clara Thorne. He is also survived by his daughters and grandsons, and he adored his great granddaughters.
As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's or Cancer Society's or the Heart & Stroke Foundation.
