He was predeceased by: his brothers, Martin (Elaine) and Roger; his parents, Henry Michels and Maria Michels; his stepmother Doris Michels; his nephew Jeffrey; his nieces, Stephanie and Shannon; and his sister-in-law Maria.

He is survived by: his siblings, Peter (Noreen), Geraldine (late Maynard McEwan), Jack (Mona), Theresa (Rick Lemieux), Betty and Sylvia (Daryle Payne); and his nephews, Matthew, Thomas, Gavin, Richard (Christine), Brian, Christopher, Graham (Shelley), Quincy, Jordan and Steven. He is also survived by many friends and neighbours, cousins.
