She was predeceased by: her parents, Catherine'Kay' and William'Donald'Oates; and her close friend Brian. She is survived by: her children, Mike Barr (Andra) and Patty Ascough (Graham); her grandchildren, Jonathan Ascough (Anelle), Andrew Ascough, Kristopher Barr and Meghan Barr; her great grandchild Robert Ascough; and her siblings, Mary Fordham (Peter) and Tom Oates (Mary-Ellen).
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Mariposa House Hospice (https://www.mariposahousehospice.com) or to the Orillia Soldiers' Memorial Hospital (https://www.osmh.on.ca), reflecting Joan's decision to make a positive impact on her local community.
