He was predeceased by: his father William (Mary) of New Waterford; and his siblings, Wally (Mary Margaret), Marg (Al), Curean (Jack), Alma, Clarence, Patricia (Al) and Carmel (Hughie).

He is survived by: his family, Joanne Burns of Georgetown and Robert Burns (Betty) of Oakville; his grandchildren, Ryan Settle (Miranda) of Hamilton and Lauren Settle (Georgetown); his pets, Chip, Greta and Demetri; his sibling-in-law Marg; his children, Joe, Trudy, Rob, Betty, Joanne and Scott; his sister Bonnie; his brother-in-law Bernie; his friends, Erin and Rob; his grandson Cameron; and also, Mary, Joe, Joyce, Kristy, John, Joan and Trudy.

Covid came along and put a harsh stop to so many of these beloved outings.

In 2012, as Trudy's Parkinson's disease advanced, Joe made the proactive move to find safe, ground-floor living and secured a beautiful condo overlooking its own tree and tiny yard, a patio door, 2 bedrooms, a cozy fireplace, and no stairs.
