He was predeceased by: his parent John Smithson; his stepchild Heather Fledderus; and his brothers, George, Dennis and Paul.

He is survived by: his parent Meta Marie Smithson; his spouse Sandra Fledderus; his stepchildren, Jeff, Shelly and Christina Schweertman (Dave); his child Porsha; and his siblings, Wayne, Penny Vandendriessche (Roger) and Sherry Moncrieffe (Glen).
