He was loved and cherished by many people including: his wife Dorothy; his children, Cathy Durant (Benny), Len Bates (Caroline), Dan Bates, Anita Bates and Adored; and his brothers, William Bates (Joan), Leonard Bates (Colleen) and Doug Bates (late Mary).

Due to pandemic restrictions a private family service will take place.
