He was predeceased by: his parents, Ethridge Purdy and Vera Purdy (Palmer); and his siblings, Henry, Lenard, Gordon and Joyce.

He is survived by: his wife Annie (Pituk); and his children, William (Tracey), Thomas (Sandy), John (Deanne) and Joanna Thornton (Malcolm). He is also survived by 9 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
