He was predeceased by: his parents, Alvin Schlegel and Clara Schlegel; and his brothers-in-law, Ken Douglas and Ezra Bender. He is survived by: his wife Marianne Schlegel of New Hamburg; his children, James Schlegel of Kitchener and Lisa Packull (Reiny) of Waterloo; his grandsons, Aaron and Ben; his son Wondimu Gashaw of Guelph; and his siblings, Paul (Audrey Schlegel), Carl (Marlene Schlegel), Karen Douglas of Stratford, Armand (Elizabeth Roth), Eileen Bender of New Hamburg and Sandra Roth of Baden.
