He was predeceased by: his spouse Shirley Vankoughnet; his son Peter; his parents, William Vankoughnet and Andrea Vankoughnet; and his brother George.

He is survived by: his children, Don Jr. (Doreen), Bob (Wendy), Beverley (Tarq), Ron (Deb) and Lorie; his grandchildren, Kimberley (Tony), Amanda, Andrew, Chantelle (Nam), Kylee (Nate), Shasta (Steve), Kassandra, Erika (Aaron), Ryan (Anne), Murray (Rae), Jerred and Beau; his brother Bill Vankoughnet; and his close friend Melba Lameront. He is also survived by his extended family and many friends.
