He was predeceased by: his parents, William Merkley and Alice Merkley; and his siblings, Maxine Link (Gerald), Dolores Moffat (Mac), Wallace, Gordon and Howard Merkley.
He is survived by: his wife Barbara Merkley; his stepsons, Allan Merkley of Morewood, Robert Merkley (Sue) of Morewood and Jeffery Merkley of Morewood; his brothers, Richard Merkley (Brigitte) of Ottawa, Frank (Louise) of Orleans, Doug (Bev) of Winchester and David (Carol) of Courtney, B. C.; his sibling-in-law Bettyanne Merkley of Morewood; his granddaughter Thalia (Liam); and his great grandchild Patrick. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
