“Dear Godin Family, It was great sadness that I learnt about the passing of cherry. I have very fond memories of your family and life in Peshawar in the good old days when Mr. and Mrs ran the piano shop on Arbab Road and Godin boys and pretty Roberta and I studied in the Convent school across the Road. Mrs Godin was quite a socialite with a wide circle of friends and deeply involved in charity work. She was a friend of my mother and they visited often. I recall how we were all envious when cherry got a motor cycle and blazed around town. It must have been the 1950s. And gradually one by one Every one left Peshawar. I was in touch with Hubert in Karachi and he was a great solace to me when I was diagnosed with cancer. Apparently , The strong peshawar bond subsisted and there was a group of old friends from Peshawer in Karachi who met regularly. The Dawn Newspaper of pakistan carried the obituary of Cherry under the headlines “Noted with British Roots dies in Mississauga” and the message was passed on by WhatsApp to the wide circle of his friends and admirers. May he rest in eternal peace and May god give you strength to bear this loss. For many of us Here it is a loss of a friend and an ending of an era. God bless you all.
