Trish Eva Laurie Obituary

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved sister Trish in her 42nd year on Saturday August 5th, 2023 after her courageous two and half year battle with cancer. Trish passed away in the loving and caring home of her sister Maggie. Trish was born on August 28th, 1980 to Eileen Laurie and Ronald Laurie at home on their farm in Milton. Trish is survived by her cherished 6 year old daughter Charlize who was the light of her life. She is survived by her brother John with nephew Rowan, sister Maggie and partner Gboyega, sister Sarah and husband Steve, with nephew Hillier, nieces Willow and Lilly. Father Ron and partner Bev. Ken Salisbury and family. And all of those who loved Trish. Trish was predeceased by her beloved mother Eileen Laurie when she was 18. Trish grew up in Kilbride, Burlington attending the quaint little school bearing the same name. She attended Lester B. Pearson high school before traveling to Australia with a year-long Rotary student exchange program. Trish went on to study Engineering Physics specializing in Nano and Micro Devices and Photonics at McMaster University in Hamilton. Not only did Trish put herself through one of the most demanding university programs, she volunteered her time and contributed to her engineering and school community as President of the McMaster Engineering Physics Society, and organized international conferences for her field. She was recruited by Atomic Energy of Canada (AECL) and excelled in nuclear fuel design, co-authoring a number of papers and a design manual and documenting detailed proprietary information for both protected full technical review and high-level government and public use. After joining Ontario Power Generation (OPG), Trish embarked on the new Small Modular Reactors (SMR's) and was asked to represent the Canadian nuclear industry on the topic of "Potential SMR Applications in Canada" at the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) technical meeting in Vienna, Austria in 2019. There are only a handful of people worldwide that have the specialized knowledge to discuss these technologies that are progressing Canada's green powered initiatives. Everyone recognized the kindness, warmth and beauty of Trish when they met her but they may have not realized she was also brilliant. She gracefully excelled in a field with less than 10% women but Trish's humble values, unwavering ethics and tireless pursuit of truth in an important field is what made her a treasured rarity. Her welcoming nature drew friends and colleagues from all backgrounds and immediately put people at ease with her smile and playful wit. Trish will forever be missed by all who were fortunate to know her. A loyal and wise confidant whose wit, gentle soul, beautiful laughter and thoughtful generosity touched the lives of so many. Her ability to offer sage advice and unwavering support made her a cherished friend and mother. She was unparalleled in her dedication, time and love for her daughter Charlize, who will continue to be surrounded by Trish's family and friends, and keep her precious memories alive as Charlize continues to grow in this world. In lieu of donations to a charity we would appreciate donations toward Charlize's Registered Education Saving Plan (RESP). You can make contributions by cash or email transfer ([email protected]).
