He was predeceased by: his sister Doris MacDiarmid; and his nephew Dave MacDiarmid. He is survived by: his brother-in-law Allan MacDiarmid of Midland; his nephew Jon MacDiarmid (Tania); his great-niece Kara; and his great-nephew David.

Donations in his memory can be made to the local Royal Canadian Legion.
