He was loved and cherished by many people including: his wife Linda Merkley; his children, Arlene Merkley (John) and JJ Merkley (Jill); his grandchildren, Katelyn and Markus; his parents, Mary Merkley and Robert Merkley; and his siblings, Bob Merkley (Carol), Larry Merkley (Annette), Ronald Merkley (late Marlene), Cecil Merkley (late Phyllis) and Barbara DesRoches (Venard).

In lieu of flowers, the family would ask that a donation be made to the Diabetes Association of Canada.
