It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of Joseph Francis Xavier (Markham, Ontario), who passed away on April 2, 2025, at the age of 96, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by: his parents, Bastiampillai Joseph Rasiah (Gnanamma Christopillai) and Naranthanai (Kayts, Sr.); and his brothers, Peter and Vincent. He is survived by: his wife Chandranee; his children, Navajeev, Subha (Charles Michael) and Dinesh; and his grandchildren, Jeevan and Avishan. He is also survived by four sisters-in-law in Sri Lanka and many adored nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

Visitation was held on Wednesday, April 9th 2025 from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM at the Chapel Ridge Funeral Home (8911 Woodbine Ave, Markham, ON L3R5G1). A funeral service was held on Thursday, April 10th 2025 at 2:00 PM at the Saint Jude's Wexford Anglican Church (10 Howarth Ave, Scarborough, ON M1R1H4).

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the International Medical Health Organization (IMHOcanada.org).

“I met Francis and his young family during their years in Montreal and had a few good years of political activism together. That won’t surprise anyone who knew him. Francis is such a beautiful soul. My father was also an Anglican priest and called these moments the passage to the next step on the pilgrimage. The part of the pilgrimage Francis spent on earth was certainly filled with the inspiration and love he spread along the way. He will forever be in my heart. Love to the whole family.”
