Christine Hope Lemmon Obituary

We are heartbroken to announce the passing of Christine “Chris” Lemmon on August 7, 2023, at the young age of 56. Chris passed away after a short and incredibly brave battle with cancer over the past 4 months.

Chris was born in Sarnia, Ontario in 1967 to Morgan and Judy (Thrower) Mulvihill. The Mulvihill family, with deep roots in Sarnia moved to Scarborough, Ontario in the late 1980’s. Chris completed high school at Sir John A Macdonald Collegiate Institute before attending Seneca College where she graduated from their Legal Assistant program in 1988. Always an independent person, Chris moved out on her own at the young age of 21, renting her first apartment on Balioll Street in Toronto. Chris worked for many years with the Gellar & Minster legal firm in Toronto, where she specialized in real estate law. Chris then went on to work at The GAP in Newmarket where she worked for 12 years and formed many meaningful friendships with her wonderful colleagues.

Chris met her husband (Mark Lemmon) through a blind date at the Chicken Deli Bar & Grill one Sunday afternoon in 1990. They were set up by their dear friends Mark & Lisa Hildred - it was love at first sight for Mark (probably not so much for Chris!). Chris and Mark were married in May of 1993 and soon after started their beautiful family, first with the birth of their son Mackenzie (Mack) in 1995 then followed by the birth of their beautiful daughter (Taylor) in 1997. Chris and family lived in Markham, Ontario until 1998 when they moved to the vibrant Town of Aurora, Ontario. Aurora is still home to the Lemmon family where they have enjoyed many, many years of involvement in their beautiful community.

Chris was incredibly devoted to her children (Mack & Taylor). Always volunteering at Highview Public School, Chris was a fixture on all field trips, school fundraisers, etc. Her kids were, and still are, absolutely everything to Chris. Chris was the best friend to both her kids, always protecting, lending an ear and a shoulder to cry on. Throughout her battle with cancer, Chris’s greatest fear and source of sorrow was knowing that she would not be able to be there for her kids any longer. Her special “mother-daughter” relationship with Taylor was like no other. “Best friends” does not come even close to defining their deep bond.

Chris touched so many people with her kind and gentle personality. A beautiful person inside and out! Always smiling, lending a hand, and quietly gifting small gestures to brighten someone’s day. A selfless, non-judgemental, and loving person that enabled her to form many deep and meaningful friendships throughout her lifetime.

Chris had a passion for so many things…. Of course her children, then, her love and passion for the Toronto Maple Leafs. A consummate Leafs Fan, through and through! Her passion for the Maple Leafs might only have been surpassed by her obsession for clothing…. I am sure our family has kept Aritzia in business for many years!! Chris was a fitness freak. Her daily outdoor runs, or her 3-4 time per week visits to her favourite gym in Newmarket – 9Round. Chris was committed to fitness to offset her greater passion for a good glass of red or rosé wine – as Chris would say…. “Rosé All Day!”

Chris leaves behind her loving husband Mark of 30 years, her wonderful son Mack and her beautiful daughter, Taylor. She was so incredibly proud of both her children and the young adults they have now become.

Chris is also survived by her parents Morgan and Judy (Thrower) Mulvihill, her beautiful sisters Alicia and Rebecca (Grant Goldrich), as well as her in-laws (Walter & Carole Lemmon), her sister-in-laws Tracey McCarthy (Bob Kerr) and Jacqueline Lemmon (David Lemmon). Chris is also survived by her beautiful (and only) niece (Lauren Goldrich) as well as her seven nephews: Graeme and Alex Goldrich, Alex, Eric and Charlie McCarthy, and Ben & TJ Lemmon.

We love you Chris with all our hearts!! You will be sorely missed by so many! Thank you for your love, friendship and caring over your entire life on earth.

There will be a celebration of life for Chris sometime in the coming months. Please stay tuned for details.

Special thanks to the doctors and nurses at the Stronach Cancer Centre in Newmarket – Dr. Simos, Dr. Zarah Kassam, Dr. Baguio and especially to Chandra for her constant care and compassion while in palliative care.

Special thanks also to the incredible nurses, PSW’s and volunteers at the Margaret Bahen Hospice – Hailey, Lisa, Anka, Elena, Barb, Joanne and Christina.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Margaret Bahen Hospice in Newmarket. This hospice and their incredible staff and group of volunteers made Chris’s last week somewhat bearable and provided her with dignity and compassionate care. Donations can be made here: Margaret Bahen Hospice
