George Saunders wrote a sympathy message

“To Philip, and the family of Maurice Power: The loss of a brother and parent is one of the strongest bonds of grief we all face in this life. Our sympathies go out to all of you on the loss of Maurice. Although our meetings in life were few and distant because of our lives in Newfoundland and Labrador, nevertheless we want you to know that we knew him well during our youth and the few interactions we had during life unfolding. We have pleasant memories, and were always impressed with the intellectual ability and capacity of the man. His passing follows much suffering, especially from the disease that has consumed so many in this country. But his suffering is now over, and hopefully, he is at peace. He left behind a small circle of family and friends who are also at peace. Our thoughts are with you during this time. May he rest in peace. George & Linda Saunders Bishop's Falls, NL”
