He was predeceased by: his son Paul Claessen; his parents, Harrie Claessen and Jet Claessen (VanDerAvort); his stepmother Jo Claessen (Van); and his parents-in-law, Jan and Adrianna Vosters (Van).

He is survived by: his wife Johanna "Jean" Claessen (Vosters); his daughters, Pamela Claessen (Justin Caron) of Mallorytown and Natasha Claessen (Ryan Mitchell) of Ucluelet, BC; and his siblings, Jeanne Claessen (Anne LeTurdu) of Sutton, QC and Paul Claessen (Jeanne). He is also survived by his brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins.
