He was predeceased by: his wife Florence Merkley (McEwan); his parents, John Merkley and Nellie Merkley (Barnhart); and his siblings, George, Don, Fred and Isabel.

He is survived by: his sons, Kevin Merkley (Melanie) of Cardinal and Roger Merkley (Donna) of Lunenburg; and his granddaughters, Tamara, Tori, Amanda, Tawnya and Amber. He is also survived by 14 great grandchildren.

As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Alzheimer Society would be appreciated by the family.
