He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert Helm and Myrtle Helm; his brother James; and his brothers-in-law, Lloyd Whytock and Rick Matthews.

He is survived by: his wife Phyllis; his children, Mitchell Helm and Adrian Rau; his siblings, Roberta Whytock, Tom Helm (Joan) of Lucknow and Art Helm (Barb) of Lucknow; his sisters-in-law, Carol Chandler (Rick) of Kelowna, B. C., Debbie Matthews of Calgary Alberta and Charlynn Ursu (Gary) of Calgary Alberta; and his foster children, Phyllis, Jenna, Logean, Kaitlin, Sarah, Brittany, Nikki, Ruth, Alecia and Jessica.
