He was predeceased by: his wife Janet; and his siblings, Fran and Margaret. He is survived by: his children, David Gardner (Mary), Wendy Gardner (Fabian Friedland) and Stephen Gardner (Jill Mandley); and his grandchildren, Ryan Gardner (Randall), Janet Friedland, Eddie Friedland, Claire Gardner and Simon Gardner.
