He was predeceased by: his wife Margaret Joan; his granddaughter Lauren Richards of Ottawa; his sister Mollie Robertson McKay; and his parents, Craig Allan McKay and Mary Beatrice McKay (Robertson).
He is survived by: his children, Craig (Robin), Ian (Carol) and Jennifer Richards (late Darrell); and his grandchildren, Heather (Lobsinger), Candice, Campbell, James, Matthew, Alexander, Samuel McKay and Simon Richards.
