He was predeceased by: his son Jeremiah Stephens; and his sibling Guelda Kalenuik (Nick). He is survived by: his children, Deborah Stephens (Jason Simkin), Laurence Stephens (Jennifer Stirling), Kyla Stephens (Rob Petitti), Ashlee Stephens (Mathew Harmer) and Jordan Stephens (Larissa Alston); and his siblings, Nona Ray (late Gordon), Maxine Howson (late Donald), Charmaine Vander Eyken (late Tony), Rudy, Vicki Kennedy (late Douglas), Tom Stephens (late Maryanna), John Stephens (Aline), Allen Stephens, Paul Stephens (Laurel), Kimberly Jewel (Lewis), Philip Stephens (Pamela) and Martin Stephens.
