He was predeceased by: his parents, Heinrich and Martha; and his brothers, Erhard, Alfred and Heinrich.
He is survived by: his wife Melitta; his children, Edgar, Martina and Karin Courage (Paul); his siblings, Helga, Erna and Bruno (Ina); and his granddaughter Micaela. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
