He was predeceased by: his spouse Egberdina; his daughter Jane Erikson; his grandson David Smit; and his great grandchild Gabriel Brouwer. He is survived by: his children, John, Donna Smit, Walter, BettyAnn Smit, Aggie, Ron Marr, Margaret Smit, Diane, Scott Phillips, Abe Smit, Joanne, Kevin Vanderlee, Julie and Chuck Veldhuis.
