He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Albert and Sophrona (Willoughby); his siblings, Frank, Ralph, Russell Leora, Bertha, Verna and Anita; his wife Ethel Susan; his children, Jeffrey Canning (Mary-Anne), Danny Canning, Ellen (Charles Orser), Carl Canning (Melanie), Debora George (John), Wendy Canning, Michael Canning (Phyllis), Steven Canning (Rhonda) and Nancy Archer; his grandchildren, Tyler, Lexi Canning, Kimberley Orser (Paul Fleischer), Kara-Lynn Orser, Nathan Orser (Missy), Benjamin George (Meagan), Rachel Pintos, Jacob Kanis, Jonathan Benedict, Katie Canning (Robert Griffiths), Jason Canning (Kim), Shannon Canning (Josh Ostertag) and Whitney Archer; and his great grandchildren, Madison, Ethan Fleischer, Miles Orser, Gabriel, Mila Pintos, Charlie, Lucas, Mavis George, Tucker Lecroix, Tala, Tyson Kanis, Blair, Elliott Griffiths, Landon and Logan MacDonald.
