He was loved and cherished by many people including: his wife Nancy Louise (Lawrence); his children, Robert Johnstone, Michael Johnstone (Larissa) and Sherri Johnstone; his grandchildren, Keira and Megan; and his siblings, Billy Johnstone (Diane), Barbie and Betty. He was also cherished by many nieces and nephews.
