He was predeceased by: his brother Bob MacKinnon; and his sisters-in-law, Liz MacKinnon and Joan MacKinnon. He is survived by: his spouse Elsie MacKinnon of Hanover; his children, Andrew MacKinnon (Barb) of Hanover, Bruce MacKinnon of Bowmanville, Doug MacKinnon (Brenda) of Neustadt, Glen MacKinnon (Jane) of Seattle and Catharine Smith (David) of Mount Forest; his grandchildren, Michelle, Carla, Tyler, Calvin, Shelby, Jacob, Alex, Louisa and Rosie; his great grandchildren, Alessandra, Aurora and Malakhi; and his siblings, Don MacKinnon (Donna) of Owen Sound, Gale MacKinnon (Judy) of Niagara Falls, Sandy MacKinnon (Linda) of Kingston, Karen Motherwell of Oakville and Glenda Klein (Wayne) of Lindsay. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
