He was predeceased by: his wife Esther; his parents, Elmo Smith and Elizabeth Smith; his daughter-in-law Cindy Smith; his grandson Brandon Smith; and his sisters, Marguerite Duguid of Calgary, Jean Rasmussen of Winnipeg and Pat Soloman of Calgary.

He is survived by: his children, Derrick Smith of Welland and Donna-Lee Smith of Ancaster; his grandchildren, Eric Forester, Joslyn Smith, Maximilian and Kamren Smith-Harrison; and his girlfriend Heather Greenleaf. He is also survived by grandpa to his grandsons.
