He was predeceased by: his spouse Jean Shelly; his parents, Harvey Shelly and Sally Shelly (Lester); and his brothers, Larry, Lyle and Lloyd Shelly.

He is survived by: his children, Kim Shelly of Niagara Falls, Lenny Shelly (Anita) of Niagara Falls, Rene Shelly (Sandy) of Niagara Falls, Patrick Chevalier (Christine) of Niagara Falls, Amber Smith of Tillsonburg and Crystal Misener of London; and his siblings, Lester Shelly of Pine Springs and Ruby Shelly.
