He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert Overton and Myrtle Overton; his brothers-in-law, Ron Hutchinson and Bruce Mohr; and his sister Sandra Holly (Jim).

He is survived by: his wife Sheila Overton; his children, Troy Overton (Amy), Tanya (Barry Hill), Lindsay (Scott Power) and Taylor Hawkins (Jeremy Schroeder); his granddaughters, Erin, Avery and Leni; and his siblings, Keith Overton (Sheila), Lynn Hutchinson (Fred), Judy (Willard Proulx), Bonnie (Ronnie Church), Susan (Mike Grabiec) and Barry Mohr (Sandra). He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, nephews.
