He was predeceased by: his son Jefferson; his parents, William Staats and Emiline Staats (Silversmith); and his siblings, Perry, William, Matthew, George, Susan, Julia, Audrey, Beatrice, Carolyn, Jennifer and Luke.
He is survived by: his wife Carol Hazel; his children, John Jr. (Diane) and Lesley (Ray); his grandchildren, Joseph Jr. (Alanna), Brittany (Chad), Julia (Jesse), Justin, Eric, Philip, Kayla, Courtney and Regan; and his siblings, Eldean and Monica. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
