He was predeceased by: his wife Sandra "Sandy" McDonald; his son Russell "Rusty" DeForest; his grandchild Russell Evan DeForest Jr.; and his sisters, Donna Wood (Ed) and Margaret Monk (Spencer).

He is survived by: his stepdaughter Emily McDonald (Cameron Lewis); and his caregiver Cody.
