He is survived by: his wife Jenny Smit; his children, Patricia Vanderkooy (Herman), Margaret Vandezande (Richard) and Jack Smit (Pauline Vanderlugt); and his great grandchildren, Jen, Anna Vanderkooy, Helen Vanderkooy, Robert Smit (Michelle Zandstra), Melanie, Julia Scholman (David) and Elana Smit. He is also survived by many nephews and nieces.
