He was predeceased by: his son Bob McConnell; his parents, Melba Landstrom and Glenford Desjardine (Dorothy Hendron); his grandfather Gordon Turnbull of Turnbull's Grove; and also Stan Lovie.

He is survived by: his wife Barbara Shephard (Knowles); his children, Erryn Shephard, Ellen McConnell, Allyson and Howie Owens; his brother Leo; his sister-in-law Susan Desjardine; his sister Cassie Anne Lovie; his brothers-in-law, Ralph Knowles (Mary Ann) and Ron Knowles; and his aunt Helen Pirello. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
