He was predeceased by: his parents, John Dawson and Margaret Dawson of Ottawa; his siblings, John of Ottawa and Lois of Godfrey; and his son Thomas of Aurora.
He is survived by: his sons, Michael (Jane) of Goderich, William (Anne) of London and James (Lori) of Balsam Lake, Ontario.; his grandchildren, Grant, Connor, Andrew, Cameron, Gordon, Sarah, Beth, Katherine, Leah and Nicholas; and his significant other Doreen.
