He was predeceased by: his parents, James Wilfred McDonough and Elizabeth; his sister Mary Helen McDonough; and his son-in-law Paul Smith. He is survived by: his wife Priscilla; his children, Samantha (Gary Maheu), Andrea (Rob Bowman), Michael (Tracey) and Andrew (Linda); his grandchildren, Tazmin, Kyra Smith, Simon, Jonathon Bowman, James, Liam McDonough and Cody McDonough; and his pet Pepper.

Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Society of Waterloo Wellington or Groves Memorial Hospital.
