He was predeceased by: his parents, S. J. Smith and Myrtle Smith of Chatham; and his sister Marion McMillan. He is survived by: his wife Jackie; and his children, Carol (Phil), Brian (Judy), Barb (Mike) and Blake (Barb).

In lieu of flowers donations to the Fenelon Falls Secondary School "Spirit of Christmas" or the Humane Society of Kawartha Lakes.
