He was predeceased by: his wife Mary Smits (Toussaint); his parents, Regnerus and Tecla; and his siblings, Ben, Dirk, Henk, Jan and Tinie.
He is survived by: his children, Jake Smits, Sherrie Lampman-Smits and Rob Smits; and his grandchildren, Tim, Adam, Payton and Mckenzie. He is also survived by cousins and many nieces and nephews.
