He was predeceased by: his wife Sandra Jean Gackstetter (Smith); his parents, Henry Gackstetter and Frances Gackstetter (Littlejohns); and his siblings-in-law, Nancy Warwick (James), John Smith, Larry MacGregor and Adam Smith.

He is survived by: his sister Katherine Smith of Brussels; and his siblings-in-law, Joyce MacGregor of Lucan, Norma Cooper of Brussels, Mary of Brussels and Roger Dilworth of Brussels. He is also survived by his many nieces and nephews.
