He was loved and cherished by many people including: his spouse Leona; his children, William, Elizabeth, Phillip, Teresa Tremblett (Richard), Christine Waechter, George Windmill, Grant Windmill (Deborah) and Mark Windmill; and his sisters, Lois Thompson and Jill Whitfield. He was also cherished by 11 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren.
