Doug Ralston Obituary

Douglas Wayne Ralston was born in Hamilton, ON on May 27, 1948 in a taxi on York Street in front of a Hotel, all 10lbs 6 oz of him! Doug married Judi (Kiemele) on September 11, 1971, and was dad to Terry, Leigh-Anne Tyminski (Rob) and Grampa to Eric Drescher (Lauren), Brooklyn Drescher, Stephen Ralston, Carter Ralston, Alexander Ralston, Easton Tyminski, Jacob Ralston, Blakeley Tyminski and Lilah Ralston.

In 1968. Doug was one four electrical apprentices hired by Ontario Hydro for the new Nanticoke Generating Station. He retired from Lambton Generating Station in 2004 as Manager Production and Maintenance Planning. Doug saw his work as an extension of himself and was dedicated to doing more and doing better. He saw work as an activity, not an obligation and loved going everyday. Doug shared his talents for craftsmanship and creativity with the Caledonia Men's Club and Caledonia. Special Projects, a place where he loved spending free time.

His passion for work and solving problems was rivalled with his love for the North, whether sipping Cognac with his dear friend Malcolm Mann on the shores of Georgian Bay or paddling the rapids on his annual canoe trip that he completed for 49 years with Mike Considine (and children and then grandchildren). It was a rite of passage. Lifelong friendships were what he did best. Doug loved spending time with Donna and Ed Couture for the last 55 years sharing countless dinners and cocktails together, happy just to be in each other's company.

Doug was often a man of few words. But when he spoke, he was intentional, thoughtful and logical. Integrity drove his decision making and this example of humanity is the gift he left.

Sip the whiskey, enjoy the silence and know your worth, despite your credentials. Cheers to a life of service and putting family first; always.

In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place.
