He was predeceased by: his sons, Alan Peter Bender and Jayden Bender; his parents, Harold Bender and Marie Bender; and his sister Anne Bowyer.

He is survived by: his children, Alicia Wagner (Henry), Eric Sjaarda (Stephanie) and Evan Sjaarda (Takeiyah); his grandchildren, Austin, Alex, Katja, Othniel, Alek, Konrad, Miranda and Octavia; and his siblings, Marvin Bender and Mary Bender (David). He is also survived by his many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
