He was predeceased by: his parents, Arthur Tyo and Ethel Tyo; and his sisters, Grace McPherson (Donald "Jim"), Edna Cooper (John) and Hilda Sabourin (Gerard).

He is survived by: his wife Laurette Tyo (Grant); his daughters, Ruth Tyo-Larose, Tina Tyo-Grover (Corey) and Wanda Tyo-Carriere (Serge); his stepchildren, Russell Grant (Debbie), Wendy Hart (Al), Cindy Reid and Tommy Grant; and his sisters, Doris Desrosiers (Ray), Francis Belmore (late Leo) and Amelia Legue (late Gordon). He is also survived by eighteen grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
