He was predeceased by: his parents, Andrew Geertsma and Wilma Geertsma; and his brothers, Sietze, George and Jack Geertsma.
He is survived by: his wife Teena Geertsma; his children, Richard "Dickie" Geertsma (Mary) of Morrisburg, Daniel Geertsma of Mount Brydges, Diane "Daisy" Charron-Bishop (Heath) of Sault Ste, Marie and David Charron (Veronique) of King Kirkland; his siblings, Hennie Zandbergen (Henry) of Iroquois, Ruth Stolk (late Herman) of Welland, Trinkie Vander Heide (Hank) of Morrisburg, Jake Geertsma (Wendy) of Dunbar and Bert Geertsma (Loretta) of Dunbar; and his grandchildren, Mitchell Geertsma, Abby Geertsma, Hannah Geertsma, Ty Geertsma, Emeraude Charron, Seth Bishop, Eden Bishop, Ethan Charron and Charles Charron. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
