She was predeceased by: her parents, Wilmer "Windy" Karn and Betty Karn (Sulkye); her son Kevin Thompson; her former husband Ernie Thompson; and her siblings-in-law, Betty Stewart, Wayne Thompson, Ken Hamel, Bob Parker, Ken Karn, Herb Gutscher and Howard Kaufman.

She is survived by: her husband Dan Gies; her daughter Karen Kroes (Henry) of Waterford; her grandchildren, Paige, Kaitlyn (Randy) and Kyle; her sisters, Dorothy Kaufman, Dorinda Howie (John), Dennice Fritz (Wayne), Darlene Schaus (Bruce) and Doreen Walker (Terry); her close friend Sandra Lackie; and her siblings-in-law, Gail Parker, Linda Karn (Len), Iradelle Thompson, Janet Kroeplin (Rae), Mary Gutscher, Rita Fairweather (Craig), John Stewart and George Miskie. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Diabetes Canada would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy.
