Diane Stewart Obituary

Diane Gabrielle Stewart passed away peacefully at Chatham Kent Hospital in the early morning of Thursday December 30th after several courageous battles with health concerns.

She was born to the late Sidney Plumridge (1977) and Martha (nee Mortier, 2011) in 1947.

After the early passing of her adored husband, John Stewart in 1988, she dedicated her life to her twin children Andrew (Elaina) Stewart and Sara (Jason) Heuvelmans while continuing her working career at Union Gas. While she faced struggles, she never struggled to provide the love and care her children needed – they always came first.

She also leaves behind (6) grandchildren who were the centre of her world, Koren and Maddux Stewart, Fraser, Gabriel, Xavier and Alexandra Heuvelmans.

Many hockey games were attended, hiding out in the warm lobby to find another grandma who was there that she could socialize with and football games that she always told us she didn't approve of when it was over – but she wouldn't miss them to provide support. They all miss everything about her tremendously.

Dearest sister and undoubtedly her best friend Patricia (late Mike) Bechard. They were Disney companions and world travellers together – having reached all corners of the world. They shared multiple daily phone calls with one another, talking everything from Netflix to their dinner menu's – we will be forever grateful to Aunt Pat for her loyalty and dedication to mom during her sickness.

Diane always tried to keep an eye on her (2) younger siblings, sister Nancy Johnson and brother Bill Plumridge.

Sister in law to Nancy (Jack) Pickering, Evelyn (Bruce) Hodgson, Ronald (late Gail) Stewart, Paul (late Bonnie) Stewart and predeceased by Kathy (Allan) Paine, Betty Anne Stewart, Edith (George) Jackson, Bob (Ruth) Stewart and James (Angela) Stewart.

During her later years, she travelled the world at her pace with no regrets. When she wasn't on the road or in the air, she devotedly took care of her mother in sickness, as well as many years of her aunt and uncle as they aged, never hesitating to provide them the care they deserved. This is who she was – helping her family when most needed.

In the role of a mother, we could ask nothing more from her and she will remembered as a nurturer, a valiant fighter through her sickness, a lover of her family gatherings and our frequent calls and visits to talk about whatever was on our mind or how she could help us. She gave up so much for her children and they will never forget her kindness, generosity, love and empathy for others – continuing to pass on her traits to their own children. Mom really was a signal of strength in all that she did.

So many special friends to thank for their support over the years including Glen & Ryan King & their family, Jeanette Symons, Linda Gee, Marion Tremblay, Patrick & Donna Whelihan, Jane Remington – and her special little neighbour friend, Austin. Also missed will be the gatherings with her extended family, who she considered some of her dearest friends, Ken & Theresa Banks, Roger & Pat Van Praet and Joanne Van Praet.

A visitation will take place Thursday January 6, 2022 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at Life Transitions.

**Please note** Current Covid Protocols will be in place. You must contact Life Transitions at 519-351-4444 or [email protected] to reserve a time for visitation.

We ask that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Chatham Kent Hospice or PAWR (Pet & Wildlife Rescue) – special groups to my mother and our family.

Mom, we will miss you more than you will ever know – this is not goodbye and we know you will be waiting – "Memories of a life that's been loved."
