With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Robert Bird (Brighton, Ontario), who passed away on April 17, 2019 at the age of 89. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

He was predeceased by: his parents, Francis Bird and Kathleen (Milne) of Port Hope; his siblings, Hugh Bird (Phyllis), Bill Bird and Margaret Davison; and his brother-in-law Henry Benham.

He is survived by: his wife Catherine Marion "Hope" (Drummond); his daughters, Kathryn Shanahan (late Donald) of Brighton, Janet Bird (Dan Walker) of Brighton and Stephanie Bird (Janna Box) of Brighton; his sisters, Brenda Mountstevens (John) of Vancouver and Dorothy Benham of Edmonton; his grandchildren, Meghan, Ian, Molly, Danielle, Brandon and Dylan; and his great grandchildren, Sawyer and Benson.

donations to the Brighton Lions Club, the Victorian Order of Nurses, and The Dave Down Memorial Hospice (Warkworth) would be appreciated by the family.

“Bob was an amazing, kind and generous person who made a big impact in my life. He was a mentor and a friend to both my daughter Joanna and myself while we worked at VON. We have many happy memories of time spent with him, particularly at our Joust in the County fundraiser. He was one of a kind and will always be remembered fondly. He was very proud of his family and my sympathies go out to you. Know that he will be missed by many. Linda Ryan”

“I had the pleasure of getting to know Bob through his many hours of volunteering with Victorian Order of Nurses, He was part of our VON family and I will remember his visits to the Community Care office for tea and cookies, He would drop in just to see how things were going and always had a genuine interest in the staff, the programs. Bob presented me with my 25 years of service and I have the picture on my computer desk that I treasure. My sympathy to his family as he will truly be missed by many and will be remembered for his kindness, his many volunteer hours but mostly for just being Bob.”
