He was predeceased by: his sister Mary Sprake. He is survived by: his wife Margaret; his children, Susan Benson (Mark), John (Aileen), Robert (Jennifer) and Mark (Cathy Douglas); and his grandchildren, Samuel, Ezra, Andrea, Fiona, Iain, Kevin, Peter, Katherine, Graydon and Piers.
